University of San Francisco head coach Erik Visser
, who guided the Dons to the 2008 West Coast Conference championship and their 31st NCAA Tournament berth,
was rewarded with a contract extension.
In his 31st season associated with USF soccer, Visser won WCC Coach of the Year honors for the third time in five seasons.
"I would like
to thank the university administration for its continued support and I am very pleased to continue the rich tradition of the soccer program," Visser said. "My staff has worked extremely hard and
obviously we're very pleased with our successes in recent years."
Visser was a top defender on NCAA championship teams in 1978 and 1980 and then became part of Steve Negoesco
's coaching staff after graduating in 1982.
Visser ranks third in career victories with 79 behind mentor Negoesco (1962-2000) with a then-NCAA record
544 wins and Negoesco's coach Gus Donoghue
(1946-1960), who tallied 121 wins.
