El Tri eyes revival in USA

[MEXICO] Having lost three of its first five games in the final round of World Cup qualifying, Mexico will be trying to find its form in the USA. First with a pair of friendlies, including a Wednesday clash in Atlanta with Venezuela (7 pm ET, Telemundo), and then the Gold Cup. Coach Javier Aguirre, who split his first two games, losing at Costa Rica and beating Trinidad & Tobago, has named a 23-man roster that includes only two foreign-based players.

Besides England-based Carlos Vela (Arsenal) and Giovani Dos Santos (Tottenham), all of Aquirre's players are Mexico-based.

On Sunday, Mexico faces Guatemala (8:30 pm ET, Telemundo) in a friendly in San Diego. El Tri's first-round Gold Cup foes are Nicaragua, Panama and Guadeloupe.

"It's our obligation, without doubt, to think of winning it [the Gold Cup] to recover the respect and confidence of the people, so they believe again in the national team," said defender Ismael Rodriguez.
