Sol extends lead to 13 points

[WPS] The Los Angeles Sol extended its lead at the top of Women's Professional  Soccer to 13 points, its largest lead of the season, with a 2-1 win at the Saint Louis Athletica. In Wednesday's other game, Boston moved into second place with a 1-0 win over the Washington Freedom.

The Sol pulled ahead in the second half on goals by Chinese sub Han Duan and Brazilian Marta before Kerri Hanks, the two-time Hermann Trophy winner, pulled one back with her first goal for St. Louis.

Marta's goal gave her six on the season, one behind teammate Camille Abily, who leads WPS in scoring.

Canadian Christine Latham scored a header off of Heather Mitts' free kick in the 37th minute to give the Breakers the win.

It was Latham's second goal of the season -- and second gamewinner against the Freedom.

"I thought the first half was probably our best soccer from both an offensive and defensive standpoint," said Boston coach Tony DiCicco. "Washington is a good team and we just didn't let them play in the first half."
