Mexico Pick Up Steam With Win Over Venezuela

Mexico's preparation for the Gold Cup could not have gotten off to a better start as the Tricolor trounced a fragile Venezuelan squad 4-0 at a friendly match at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta in front 51,115..

Mexico, propelled by an on-fire Giovani dos Santos, showed glimpses of its old form that looked lost in the constant shuffle of coach. Late in the first half, the Tottenham striker latched on to a Guillermo Ochoa pass and with a perfect cross set up Carlos Vela. Giovani then opened the second half by scoring twice in the span of two minutes. Finally, a pair of substitutes linked up for the fourth goal, as Omar Bravo set up Omar Arellano for his first international goal. Mexico plays another friendly on American soil against Guatemala on Sunday in San Diego.
