Schelotto leads in all-star voting

Seven first-time all-stars joined runaway vote leader Guillermo Barros Schelotto and perennial stars London Donovan, Dwayne De Rosario and Shalrie Joseph on the MLS All-Star First XI for the 2009 MLS All-Star Game, which will be played on July 29 at Real Salt Lake's Rio Tinto Stadium when the MLS All-Stars play England's Everton (TV: ESPN2 and Galavision, live, 9:30 p.m. ET).

Schelotto, last year's MVP and this year's leading scorer, led all players, followed by Donovan and Colorado's Conor Casey, in voting of fans, MLS coaches and GMs, media and players with each category counting 25 percent.

At 23, Houston's Stuart Holden is the youngest of the seven first-time all-stars. Kasey Keller, Seattle's 39-year-old goalie, is the oldest.

Besides Casey, the other new all-stars are Swede Freddie Ljungberg (Seattle), Colombian Wilman Conde (Chicago), Geoff Cameron (Houston) and Chad Marshall (Columbus).

The closest vote was in the midfield voting, where De Rosario edged Mexican Cuauhtemoc Blanco (Chicago) by 0.52 points.

Houston Dynamo coach Dominic Kinnear and his staff's selections will be announced on Monday. Two Commissioner's selections will complete the 18-man game-day roster.

Kinnear earned the honor of coaching the MLS all-stars against Everton by leading his team to the highest points per game average in MLS through games on June 28.
