Five girls teams remain perfect

The girls finals are set in two age groups -- U-18 FC Bucks Vipers vs. Ohio Elite SA and U-15 Dallas Texans vs. San Diego Surf -- after the completion of the second day of play at the U.S. Youth National Championships in Lancaster, Mass.

The only other girls team to win its first two games was three-time finalist PDA Fire in the U-17 competition.

The big upset of the day was Eclipse Select's 2-1 win over defending champion Colorado Rush Nike in the under-19 division.

The Vipers beat Edmond SC Black, 2-0, on second-half goals by Jennifer Hoy and Madlyn Evans. Ohio Elite SA dominated Northern California powerhouse Pleasanton Rage, winning, 3-0, thanks to goals by Leslie Twehues, Alyssa Rich and Elizabeth Burchenal.

The three under-15 games produced only two goals but they decided the age group. The Surf beat FC Pennsylvania Strikers, 1-0, on Cassandra Callahan's late goal, while the Texans edged St. Louis Scott Gallagher on a first-half Amanda Elertson goal.

The Fire lead the under-17 standings after its second win, a 1-0 victory against Internationals thanks to Rachel Davitt's goal in the 42nd minute.

Rising Illinois sophomore Julie Ewing scored in the 82nd minute to give Eclipse Select its win over the Rush.

The 2008 national champions Dallas Texans earned their first win in under-16 play at the National Championships with a 3-2 win over Cleveland FC on goals by Kelly Monogue, Abby Smith and Taylor Grant.

The Texans' U-17s, their other defending champions back at the National Championships, had to settle for a 2-2 tie with Crossfire Premier.
