Referee
Jose Carlos Rivero decision to red card Boston Breakers defender
Alex Scott for her studs-up tackle on
Washington's French international,
Sonia Bompastor,
five minutes into Wednesday's game didn't sit well with Boston
coach
Tony DiCicco, who for the second time this year ripped the Women's Professional Soccer refereeing after the game.
"He's over his head,"
DiCicco
said of Rivero in an interview with the Washington Post. "Most of the referees in this
league have been over their heads. And they can look the part and play the part but that is just a very, very difficult call in that stage in the game."
Washington won the game, 1-0, on a
second-half goal by
Abby Wambach and leapfrogged the Breakers in the WPS standings with less than two weeks to play in the regular season.
