California has hired Texas Tech women's coach
Neil McGuire as its new women's coach, replacing
Kevin Boyd, who resigned
earlier this year and later took the women's job at Arizona State.
McGuire, a native of Scotland and former player at Division II Augusta State, coached Texas Tech the past two seasons and
was the head coach at Mississippi coach for four years (2000-03). He spent the 2004 season as a women's assistant at Texas.
He was tabbed as the 2001 SEC Coach of the Year when he guided
Mississippi State to the first-ever women's conference title in Bulldog athletics, leading his team to a share of the 2001 SEC Western Division championship.
In 2006, McGuire's second season
at Texas Tech, the Red Raiders finished 7-11-2, recording their most wins in seven season.
McGuire inherits a Cal team that advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and
welcomes one of the top recruiting classes in the country.
