Pumas Struggling After Break

Pumas won the Clausura championship last season. But after the mid-season break the Apertura tournament has been a different story. Pumas are winless after four rounds, losing to Tigres, 2-1, on Saturday. On the bright side, Pablo Barrera scored the first goal of the season for Pumas, ending a 323-minute drought. But the team finished another frustrating effort with nine men after Efrain Juarez (61st minute) and Dario Veron (68th) were sent off. Argentine midfielder Lucas Lobos scored two goals to give the Tigers their first victory at Estadio Olimpico since 2000. "We worked very hard during the week to break that streak, that was our inner strength,'' Tigers coach Daniel Guzman said. With seven points, the Tigers leaped to first place in the Apertura Group 3, where the Pumas are at the bottom without a point.
