The second game of ESPN2's midweek doubleheader is a case of East meets West, or more precisely, Northwest, as the Revs head to Washington state.
SEATTLE (8-5-8) vs. NEW ENGLAND (6-6-6), 10 p.m. ET, ESPN2/Deportes
Both teams played the Galaxy in their last league
games; the Revs fell at home, 2-1, Aug. 8, and the Sounders won, 2-0, at Home Depot Center last weekend. They meet for the first time in MLS and each employs one of the twins Nyassi
(Seattle) and Sainey
(Revs). And both teams play again on Sunday, so both coaches will bear that in mind.
Dizzy spells and disorientation have
plagued Freddie Ljungberg
. He's being held out of this match, and teammate Tyrone Marshall
is suspended for an absurd second caution he incurred last week. Yet the
Sounders return home, where they are 6-1-4, after three straight on the road, and Fredy Montero
, who netted in last week's win, might be primed for another scorching run of scoring:
he tallied in five straight games from June 13 to July 11.
New England has not traveled well this season (2-4-3 road mark) yet veterans Steve Ralston, Sharlie Joseph, Jeff
Larentowicz, Jay Heaps
and Matt Reis
can make it tough on any team. Prediction:
Sounders 3, Revs 1. RIDGE
