KHELI DUBE. The second-year Zimbabwean
scored his first career hat trick in New England's 3-1 home win over Real Salt Lake, which had humiliated the Revs at Rio Tinto Stadium, 6-0, in April the last time the teams met.
22,134. D.C. United attracted its largest home crowd of the season for a visit from the Los Angeles Galaxy and David Beckham but all it witnessed was a scoreless tie in which the Englishman offered little. D.C. United is now 1-3-4 in its last eight league games. Luciano Emilio did hit the net for United but it was controversially ruled offside.
RICHIE WILLIAMS. Serving as interim coach in the wake of Juan Carlos Osorio's resignation on Friday, Williams, the longtime Bulls' assistant, celebrated a 3-2 Red Bulls' win over FC Dallas. It was the Bulls' third win of the year and broke a 13-game winless streak dating back to May 8. In 2006, Williams went 3-3-2 as Red Bulls interim coach before Bruce Arena was hired to replace Mo Johnston. Juan Pablo Angel scored the Bulls' first and third goal, an 88th minute winner while they played with 10 men because of Kevin Goldthwaite's 60th minute ejection.
11. The struggling Kansas City Wizards, in their second game with Peter Vermes' as interim coach, lost to one of the few teams with as dismal a record as their own. San Jose's Chris Wondolowski nodded home a Ramiro Corrales cross in the third minute of stoppage time to give San Jose a 1-0 win. The Wizards, winless since June 13, have scored just once in their last six games and have tallied a league-low 11 goals in their 20 games.
SACHA KLJESTAN. The midfielder scored his first (and second) goal of the MLS season, leading Chivas USA to a 2-0 win over Toronto FC, which failed to get a shot on frame. Brazilian Maicon Santos, who like Jesus Padilla was making his Chivas USA debut, assisted on Kljestan's second strike.
STEVE ZAKUANI. He assisted on Nate Jaqua's equalizer in Seattle's 1-1 tie at Houston but blew a chance to hit the gamewinner when he shot high over a wide open goal from four yards out in what may be the biggest miss of the season.
