Atletico Paranaense Slows Streaking Sao Paulo

Atletico Paranaense beat San Paulo, 1-0, to end the defending champion's seven-match winning steak in the Brazilian league on Sunday. Veteran midfielder Paulo Baier scored the winning goal in the 87th minute, a header off a cross from right midfielder Gabriel.

With its first loss in nine matches, Sao Paulo missed a chance to keep pace with leader Palmeiras, which beat Internacional 2-1 on Saturday. Palmeiras has 40 points from 20 matches, four points ahead of third-place Sao Paulo. Goias is second with 38 points after beating Santos 2-1 in Goiania. Sao Paulo and Palmeiras will meet on Sunday.
