[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jozy Altidore
, who got an assist in his English Premier League debut for Hull City on Saturday, scored on a long-range shot in
Hull's 3-1 win on Tuesday over third-tier Southend in the second round of the English League Cup.
The 19-year-old striker arrived after a season in Spain where he saw no playing time
for second division Xerez after first division Villarreal loaned him out at midseason.
Hull head coach Phil Brown
told SkySports: "The biggest bonus of the night
wasn't just the fact some young lads have made their debuts and done well, it was getting 90 minutes out of Jozy Altidore.
"He hit the winning goal and he's probably still
suffering from jetlag having arrived on Friday. He played a full competitive game - and it was competitive, Southend were no slouches."
On Saturday, Altidore entered Hull's game
against Bolton in the 60th minute and with his first touch set up Kamel Ghilas' goal in the 1-0 win.
Also in England on Tuesday, defender Jonathan Spector
minutes for the EPL's West Ham, which won, 3-1, at home in overtime at against third-tier Millwall in a match marred by field invasions and fan violence.
In Concacaf Champions League
play on Tuesday, U.S. midfielder Jose Francisco Torres
went the full 90 for Mexico's Pachuca in its 5-0 win over El Salvador's Isidro Metapan.
