Subs spark Richmond to second championship

[USL-2] Second-half subs David Bulow and John DiRaimondo scored late goals to give the Richmond Kickers a 3-1 victory over the Charlotte Eagles in the USL Second Division final. The championship was the second for the Kickers, who were loaded with former MLS players.

Playing in their fifth USL-2 final in the last six years, the Eagles led on a goal by Diego Martins in the 14th minute.

Bulow found Edson Elcock for the equalizer in the 63rd minute, and Richmond won the game on DiRaimondo's goal on a free kick that deflected off a Charlotte player and beat goalie Steward Ceus in the 83rd minute and Bulow's penalty kick two minutes later.

DiRaimondo, who spent time earlier this year with MLS's Colorado Rapids and D.C. United, is one of five Kickers who have played in MLS.

Others are Michael Burke, Luke Vercollone, Kenny Cutler and Joey Worthen. In addition, Matthew Delicate played for D.C. United in the 2009 U.S. Open Cup and Edson Elcock and Yomby William played in MLS's reserve division.
