'It's Not All Maradona's Fault,' Says Schelotto

Schelotto on the Crew's early struggles: "I believe that we started the season off on the wrong foot, not in the sense that other teams were better than us, but we would end up drawing games in which our rival would tie the score when the game was coming to a close, costing us a lot of points early on. But as the season went on we got back on track. The players that were chosen to play each game went out on the field and did their job correctly, which is the main reason why we are now currently in first place."
On the level of MLS: "I have played here the last two years, so I already am familiar with the league. It maintains the same structure and the same form of doing things. I hope that it keeps growing and that important players keep coming. This year (Seattle's Freddie) Ljungberg came, let's hope that next year a couple more will come so that the league can continue to grow."
On Diego Maradona's failures as head coach of Argentina: "Well ... with an amount of points that were lost in the past under different coaches -- such as tying with Ecuador and Uruguay at home, tying with Peru on the road, losing to Chile on the road -- games that normally Argentina always gains points from. The amount of points that it currently has helps the team to be in a hopeful position to see whether it will go to the World Cup or not. But it has nothing to do with Maradona, but with previous coaching staffs. What happens is that the name 'Maradona' catches more attention than any other, and so today he is being punished for it. Let's hope he does things correctly, and that he knows how to handle them, in order to take Argentina to the World Cup."
