On Saturday the Houston Dynamo clinched a playoff birth for the fourth consecutive season with a 1-1 tie against the Kansas City Wizards. Despite its success, some warning signs are emerging for
the Dynamo late in the season. For the sixth time in eight games, including the past four, a Dynamo player picked up a red card.
Cam Weaver had the honors against the Wizards only 17
minutes into the game with an ill-advised tackle on midfielder
Santiago Hirsig. As a result, Weaver will miss the team's showdown against Western co-leader Los Angeles on Oct. 18.
Also, for the fourth straight home game, the Dynamo relinquished a lead. On Saturday, these trends combined to deny the Dynamo a chance to regain sole possession of first place in the race for the
Western Conference title. "These are things we need to sort out and I think the first thing that we need to sort out is our red-card problem," attacker
Brian Mullan said.
