Costa Rica knocks out host Egypt

[UNDER-20 WORLD CUP] Costa Rica pulled the biggest upset yet at the 2009 Under-20 World Cup when the Ticos knocked out host Egypt, 2-0, on Tuesday. Ghana and Hungary also advanced to the quarterfinals. For more on Tuesday's games and the complete schedule with viewing information ...

Jose Mena's header off a free kick and Marcos Urena's late goal gave the Ticos the upset in front of 71,000 fans at the Cairo International Stadium. Esteban Alvarado, Mena's Saprissa teammate, was outstanding in goal.

Costa Rica had edged the USA for the fourth wild-card berth in the round of 16, where it is the lone Concacaf representative.

Ghana's Black Satellites won on goals by Andre Ayew, son of former Ghanaian great Abedi Pele, and Dominic Adiyiah, while Hungary defeated the Czech Republic to advance to the quarterfinals of a FIFA competition for the first time in almost a quarter century.
