Edu Tweets Racial Abuse

On Wednesday, Rangers midfielder Maurice Edu tweeted his disappointment with the racial abuse he received from two of his own club's fans. "Not sure what hurt more: result last nite or being racially abused by couple of r own fans as I'm getting in my car," Edu wrote on his Twitter page after Rangers 4-1 loss to Romanian club Unirea Urziceni in Champions League play. Edu, who is black, has expressed his concerns with the racism of Rangers fans on previous occasions.

David Edgar, spokesman for the Rangers Supporters Trust, said the responsible fans should be punished. "We would absolutely condemn that if that's the case," Edgar said. "These are not Rangers fans and they should be caught and prosecuted to the full extent of the law."

Edu, 23, has been out of action all season because of knee surgery. Edu joined Rangers on a five-year contract from MLS club Toronto FC in August 2008. Rangers' loss to Unirea Urziceni leaves the Scottish champions last in its group and unlikely to reach the knockout round.
