has gone dizzy this week trying to calculate Toronto FC's playoff chances. "I've had my calculator out and everything this week, and I still haven't figured it out," said
Dichio, the TFC cult hero who retired earlier this season to become the coach of the franchise's soccer academy.
"It still puzzles me. Even if we do win this week -- and the other
teams lose -- or we all end up with equal points, or we are in with a certain four-team group or a different four-team group . . . and then it starts to puzzle me all the more. I think the main thing
is, we just have to think about winning the game."
Toronto FC faces the last-place New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Toronto clings precariously to the eighth and final playoff spot with
39 points. New England, D.C. United and FC Dallas also have 39 points, but Toronto's head-to-head record among this bunch means it holds the tiebreaking edge. Colorado, meanwhile, sits seventh with 40
points. "We just have to make sure we win," Dichio said. "And then if it happens for us, it happens."
