[AMERICANS ABROAD] Clint Dempsey's first goal of the season earned Fulham a 2-2 tie with Manchester City while
Michael Bradley came close
to scoring in Borussia Moenchengladbach's derby game.
Dempsey headed home from 10 yards in the 68th minute for Fulham's second goal as it overcame a two-goal deficit to tie Manchester
City, 2-2. It was Dempsey's 15th EPL goal since joining Fulham in January of 2007.
Also in the English Premier League, defender
Jonathan Spector got his first start
since late August and helped West Ham tie Arsenal, 2-2, after going down 2-0. Aston Villa, with
Brad Friedel in goal, tied Wolverhampton, 1-1, while keeper
Tim Howard
and Everton went down, 3-2, to Bolton.
In Germany, right back
Steve Cherundolo went the full 90 and played well in Hannover 96's 1-0 win over VfB Stuttgart. The win
moved Hannover into 11th place. Borussia Moenchengladbach, with midfielder
Michael Bradley playing the whole game, settled for a 0-0 tie in the derby it hosted against FC Cologne in
front of 54,067 fans. Bradley, who scored his first goal of the season last weekend, shot just wide with a stoppage-time effort from long-range. Gladbach remains above of the relegation zone thanks
only to goal difference.
In the German second division,
Kenny Cooper played the final 24 minutes for 1860 Munich in a 3-2 loss to FSV Frankfurt. His team dropped to
14th place in the 18-team league.
In France, defender
Carlos Bocanegra played 90 minutes in Rennes' 3-0 win over Montpellier.
In Mexico, three Americans
started: midfielder
Jose Francisco Torres (76 minutes) in Pachuca's 1-0 win Indios, whose
Marco Vidal went the full 90; and
Edgar Castillo, who went
90 for Tigres in a 1-0 win over San Luis, whose
Michael Orozco stayed on the bench.
