Fire vs. New England, Round Eight

The Chicago Fire and New England Revolution meet again this MLS postseason. It will mark their eighth postseason matchup. It might be fair to say that no two MLS teams know one another better.

In the playoff history between these two teams, New England has won four of seven. In their first-ever playoff match-up in 2000, the Fire trounced the Revolution with the most lopsided playoff victory ever, 6-0, which included two goals apiece from Ante Razov and Hristo Stoitchkov. But for four straight seasons, from 2004 to 2007, the Revs ended Chicago's season. In 2004, the Revs did so in the final regular-season match of the season, 2-1, preventing the Fire from reaching the playoffs for the only time in the team's history. The Fire turned the tide last year in the Eastern Conference semifinals with a convincing 3-0 win over the Revolution in the second-leg.

The rivalry commences on Saturday (4 p.m. ET, Fox Soccer Channel) in the Eastern Conference Semifinal opener at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
