Wigan players are so embarrassed by their 9-1 loss at Tottenham in the English Premier League that they have offered to refund Wigans the cost of their tickets to see the match at White Hart Lane. "We feel that as a group of players we badly let down our supporters yesterday, and this is a gesture we have to make and pay them back for their tremendous loyalty," Wigan's Dutch defender Mario Melchiot said. "As a group of professionals, we were embarrassed by the way we performed. We feel it was below our standards and this is something we feel we owe to the fans." The number of Wigan fans at the game was believed to be less than 1,000 and the amount the players would pay would be a "five-figure [pound] sum."
