Portland has a long tradition of producing great goalies, dating back to Kasey Keller
in the late 1980s. The latest goalie to get a shot with the Pilots is
freshman Justin Baarts
, who was called into action for the first time when All-WCC goalie Austin Guerrero

2-1 win. "That's a hell of a way to make a debut, knowing that one goal finishes it," Portland coach Bill Irwin
, a former NASL goalie, said of the New
Mexico game. "But he dealt with it. He didn't show any outward nerves to me. He's got that confidence about him." Irwin says he might not select a starter in goal for Sunday's match at Virginia
until game time.
