FIFA expands women's tournament to 24 teams in 2015

[WOMEN'S WORLD CUP] FIFA has decided to expand the Women's World Cup from 16 teams to 24, beginning with the 2015 tournament.

"The value of women's soccer around the world has become higher and higher," said FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke. "By 2015, it will make sense to move from 16 to 24 teams. In Germany in 2011 it will stay at 16 teams."

The Women's World Cup started with 12 teams at China '91 and was expanded to 16 teams at USA '99.
