Cristiano Ronaldo sorry after peculiar outing

[SPAIN] Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo missed a penalty kick, didn't celebrate a goal by his team, and was red-carded for kicking an opponent.

Real Madrid-Almeria Highlights:

In Real Madrid's 4-2 home win over Almeria, Karim Benzema scored on the rebound after Ronaldo's 82nd penalty kick was blocked by the keeper, but Ronaldo didn't celebrate the goal as he walked back bemoaning his miss.

Two minutes later, Ronaldo scored on a tap-in and was yellow-carded for pulling his jersey off during the celebration. A minute later, Ronaldo, the victim of shirt-pulling and late tackles, kicked Juanma Ortiz and was ejected.

"He (Ronaldo) told us he was really sorry in the locker room," said Benzema. "It is the type of thing that can happen to anyone. He was disappointed to miss the penalty but afterward he was happy I scored. He is a great professional and wants the team to win."

Real Madrid coach Manuel Pellegrini also defended Ronaldo: "It is difficult when you miss a penalty not to dwell on it. It wasn't bad sportsmanship and he (Ronaldo) doesn't have a problem with anyone else nor is he selfish."

The red card bans Ronaldo from next weekend's game against Valencia. "It is a game I really wanted to play in so I am sad," Ronaldo said. "I am human and have my faults too. It was an instinctive reaction [not to celebrate Bensema's goal] and I have apologized to my teammates.
