Monterrey takes lead in a comeback thriller

[MEXICO] Monterrey went down, 3-1, at home against Cruz Azul but stormed back for a 4-3 win in the first leg of the Apertura 2009 final. Chilean Humberto Suazo's 88th minute goal clinched the win. The second leg in Mexico City is on Sunday (TV: Azteca America, 6 pm ET).

Monterrey took a 1-0 lead thanks to a third-minute own goal, but Cruz Azul responded with two headed goals by Paraguayan midfielder Christian Riveros and a strike by Argentine Emanuel Villa before halftime.

Suazo, the 28-year-old who was Chile's leading scorer in its successful 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign with 10 goals, made it 3-2 in the 47th minute and nailed the winner 18 minutes after Sergio Santana equalized.

Monterrey is aiming for its third title and first since the Clausura 2003. Cruz Azul, which has one eight Mexican championships, is trying to end a 12-year title drought.
