Beckham homecoming at Man. United on tap

Manchester United was drawn with AC Milan in the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League, setting up a dream matchup highlighted by David Beckham's return to Old Trafford. Beckham, who will rejoin Milan from the Los Angeles Galaxy on loan in January, will get a chance to play his first competitive game at Old Trafford since United manager Sir Alex Ferguson effectively showed him the door more than six years ago.

Beckham was reported to have uttered an incredulous expletive when informed of the draw but was said by his representatives to be "delighted." He was sold by United to Real Madrid in 2003, but Real and United never met during his four seasons with the Spanish club. Ferguson is believed to have taken a dim view on Beckham's celebrity life following his marriage in 1999 and won't be happy with the media circus that will surround the series, which will take place Feb. 16 at the San Siro and March 10 in Manchester.

United left back Patrice Evra, for one, is looking forward to playing Beckham. "He did a lot of great things for Manchester United," said the Frenchman, "and I want to say to him, 'Welcome home', but I hope he plays badly and I intend to make sure he doesn't do very well."
