Craig Levein met with Scottish Football Association on Monday to finalize his role as Scotland's new national team coach. The 45-year-old Levein, who has been
managing Dundee United, wanted greater authority over the development of Scottish soccer. He was the top candidate to replace
George Burley, who was fired in
November. Possible candidates
Walter Smith, the Rangers manager,
Gordon Strachan and
Graeme Souness all ruled themselves out of consideration.
