D.C. United has hired
former player and assistant coach Curt Onalfo
as its head coach, replacing Tom Soehn
. Onalfo was fired as the Kansas
City Wizards head coach in August. The hiring leaves only New York and Chicago without head coaches.
Onalfo, who played under Bruce Arena
University of Virginia, played two seasons for D.C. United before retiring in 1999. He played in MLS's inaugural year for the Los Angeles Galaxy and spent the next year with the San Jose Clash. Prior
to MLS, Onalfo also played in Mexico (Tampico FC, 1995-96) and France (La Ciotat, 1991-92). He spent three seasons with D.C. United as an assistant coach and helped set up its youth program.
Onalfo worked under Arena with the men's national team before joining the Wizards as head coach. He was the coach for two and a half years and finished with a 27-29-22.
