Tie for Altidore, loss for Friedel

[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jozy Altidore started for Hull City in its 2-2 tie at Bolton Wanderers, while Brad Friedel gave up a late goal to Spaniard Fernando Torres and Aston Villa fell at home to Liverpool, 1-0, in Tuesday's English Premier League action.

Altidore whose best chance was a free kick he struck wide, came off in the 53rd minute in the battle of relegation candidates. He was not involved in the two goals by scored by Stephen Hunt late in the game.

Altidore has played in 15 of the Tigers' 20 EPL games but has yet to score a goal.

The tie moved Bolton and Hull into a tie for 17th place with West Ham. The five teams ahead of them have only one to three-point advantages in what shapes up to be a heated relegation battle.

Portsmouth is in last place, trailing by four points but having a game in hand (its home game against Arsenal on Wednesday).

Friedel appeared to have a shutout in the book against his former club when poor defending allowed a ball to slip into Torres' path and the Spaniard won the game for the Reds in stoppage time.

Villa was shut out for the second straight game and now finds itself tied for fifth place with Manchester City, two points behind Tottenham.
