Frenchwoman Camille Abily
, one of the surprise stars of the first year of Women's Professional Soccer, was traded
from the Los Angeles Sol to the Bay Area FC Gold Pride for playmaker Tina DiMartino
, who returns to the Los Angeles area, where she played for UCLA. Along with
Abily, the Pride receives the 20th overall selection in the 2010 WPS General Draft from the Sol, which also gets the 14th overall selection in the 2010 draft and the rights to one of the
Pride's 2009 international discovery players.
Abily, who is currently on loan to Paris St. Germain, had eight goals in 2009 for the Sol, tying her for second place with Abby Wambach
behind Sol teammate Marta
"She has tremendous instinct on the field, her vision and decision
making skills are right on point," FC Gold Pride coach Albertin Montoya
said of Abily. "Based on her performance in 2009, I'm sure everyone is
aware of what she can do on the field. Abily is a very dynamic player. I'm confident she'll be very successful here in the Bay Area."
Abily left at the end of the regular
season to join the French national team in its preparations for the 2009 UEFA Women's Championship. Her absence was given as one of the reasons for the heavily favored Sol's loss to Sky
Blue FC in the 2009 WPS championship game.
