Togo players decide to compete in African Nations Cup

Togo will remain at the Africa Cup of Nations after all. Hours after the Sparrow Hawks announced they were leaving Angola following the attack on their bus that left their Angolan bus driver, an assistant coach and their communications officer dead and two players injured, they changed their mind and decided to play in memory of the dead.

"We are all heartbroken, it is no longer a party, but we want to show our national colors, our values and that we are men," said Togo player Thomas Dossevi. "It was a decision taken nearly unanimously by the team which met during the night after having been reassured by the Angolan authorities."

Dossevi was critical of the African soccer confederation (CAF) for not postponing Togo's opening game on Monday. "CAF puts its interests first and not those of the countries," he said. "They did not support us enough."
