Nigeria made it four of four World Cup finalists to advance to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a 3-0 win over
Mozambique Wednesday night. The Eagles recovered an opening game loss to Egypt to defeat Benin and Mozambique. They got goals from Peter Odemwingie
and after halftime to cruise to an easy win over Mozambique, which needed to win to advance. Obafemi Martins
came off the bench to score the
final goal in the 86th minute.
In the other game, Egypt got goals from Ahmed Al Muhammadi
in the seventh minute and Emad Motaeb
in the 23rd to beat Benin and extend its record unbeaten streak at the Africa Cup of Nations to 15 games.
World Cup finalists Algeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana
also all advanced after losing or tying their first game.
Cameroon, the fifth World Cup finalist, will advance with a win or tie againt Tunisia on Thursday.
