The U.S. U-19 national team fell into last place in its group at the Copa Chivas in Mexico when it lost to Tigres, 1-0, on a goal by former Southern
California prep star Moises Orozco
with three minutes left in Sunday's game. The Monterrey-based First Division club has recruited heavily in California and
Texas and started three players from the U.S. national youth team system, Juan Pablo Ocegueda, Orr Baroush
and Victor Garza.
Orozco played for Valley United SC and starred for Cal South in ODP play. He played for Oxnard
High School through the end of December.
The loss left Thomas Rongen
's Americans with one point after three games.
The other two
American entrants, Chivas USA and the Houston Dynamo, also lost in the 18-team tournament featuring teams from Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica and Japan as well as Mexico and the United States.
Chivas USA lost to Estudiantes Tecos, 1-0, to leave it in fifth place in its six-team group with three points after three games. Chibuzo Odenigwe
scored in his second straight game but the Dynamo fell to host club Guadalajara, 5-1. It was Houston's third straight loss.
