"I’m really excited about the future of this program," said Coach Chris Pfau, who enters his third season at the helm of the Zips. "The coaching staff has done a tremendous job in bringing together such a wide array of talent. We want to build upon the success of last year and this class will surely help us do that."
ALABAMA. Eight players signed national letters of intent to play for the Crimson Tide: Ariel Armijo (Littleton, Colo./J.K. Mullen), Molly Atherton (Gulfport, Miss./Gulfport), Shanna Brooks (Birmingham, Ala./Oak Mountain), Emily Cox (Decatur, Ga./St. Pius X Catholic), Theresa Diederich (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla./Episcopal), Kendall Khanna (Littleton, Colo./J.K. Mullen), Courtney Pixler (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake) and Jewelia Strickland (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater).
“This talented and diverse group of student athletes has the opportunity to come in and have an immediate impact on the Alabama soccer program,” Coach Todd Bramble said. “Not only is this group diverse in that they come from all over the nation, but in the skill sets that they bring to the program as well.”
DAYTON. Stephanie Emery (Chicago), Juliana Libertin (Uniontown, Ohio), Jordin Melchert (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), Maggie Murnane (Libertyville, Ill.), Megan Scharer (Oregon, Ohio), Sarah Senoyuit (Perkasi, Pa.) and Andrea Todak (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) all signed to play for the Flyers, who finished their 2009 season posting an impressive 16-1-6 record, including an undefeated mark in Atlantic 10 play (10-0-1).
“Our primary goal for this recruiting class was to bring in players capable of scoring goals at any level. Not only have we accomplished this, but with the bonus of having improved ourselves in every area of the field! These are quality young women in every sense of the word,” said Coach Mike Tucker. “They possess all of the traits that we look for as members of the Dayton Flyers women’s soccer program. We are thankful and thrilled to welcome them as members of our soccer family.”
FURMAN. Local product, South Carolina Player of the Year Catie Moore out of Eastside High School in Greenville, heads Furman's incoming class. She is joined by Irravadee Makris (Birmingham, Ala.), Casey McKeon (St. Petersburg, Fla.), Ellen Moore (Tampa, Fla.) and Caitlin Shelton (Raleigh, N.C.).
“We are excited about this year’s class and hopeful they can make a great impact on our program,” said Coach Andrew Burr.
NEBRASKA. Nebraska added nine players: Hannah Dittmar (Gretna, Neb.), Maddie Hanssler (Parker, Colo.), Maritza Hayes (O’Fallon, Mo.), Ashley Hick (Omaha, Neb.), Kylie Kusleika (Omaha, Neb.), Megan Merrill (Omaha, Neb.), Mallorie Monhollan (Topeka, Kan.), Ari Romero (Surprise, Ariz.) and Amy Swearer (Lincoln, Neb./Vancouver, Wash.).
NORTHWESTERN. The seven signees all come from outside Illinois: Kate Allen (Whitehouse, Ohio/Anthony Wayne), Maggie Graham (Seattle, Wash./The Bush School), Sam Hatfield (Crossfield, Alberta/W.G. Murdoch), Nicole Jewell (Raleigh, N.C./Leesville Road), Natalie Lagunas (Canyon Country, Calif./Golden Valley), Bo Podkopacz (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) and Julie Sierks (Edina, Minn./Edina).
"The 2010 recruiting class is the most talented and dynamic in our staff's tenure,” Erickson said. “We have bolstered our program's ability to score goals, compete with the great athletes of the Big Ten and defend. With this class, NU women's soccer now has an international presence and youth national team pedigree."
TULSA. Golden Hurricane signees include Bradi Hinch, Brooke Hinch, Kelsey Killion, Shelby Martin, Claire Nicholson, Jordan O’Brien, Camille Pelley, Chelsea Smith and Miranda Zoller.
“We are very pleased with our signing class,” Tulsa coach Kyle Cussen said. “This is probably one of the best classes we’ve had in the last 10 years. Not only did we meet our needs, but we were able to recruit some of the top regional and national talent. All nine players come from successful club and high school teams, and are bringing a winning mentality and work ethic to The University of Tulsa.”
VALPARAISO. Valparaiso signed six players from four different states, Hailey Chmela, Tara Ellis, Lauren Gagnon, Katie Gratzianna, Kristen Manski and Amanada Ullin.
