San Jose Earthquakes add USL vet to midfield mix

[MLS] To no one’s surprise, on Friday San Jose announced the acquisition of five-year USL veteran midfielder Joey Gjertsen. The versatileGjertsen, 27, has been with the team during preseason training and will give the Quakes another midfield option following the departure of Shea Salinas, grabbed by Philadelphia in theexpansion draft. Gjertsen will also put pressure on Arturo Alvarez and Bobby Convey, who are the flank incumbents in the wake of Salinas’s departure.
