More signings pending for Kansas City?

[MLS] Unconfirmed reports surfaced Tuesday that Kansas City, which officially announced the signing of Danish keeper Jimmy Nielsen Monday, is on the verge of adding two more international players.

Igor Kostrov, one of two Moldovan players who has been on trial with the team for the past two weeks, and second-round SuperDraft pick Korede Aiyegbusi – a native of England who played at North Carolina State – are on the verge of signing if they haven’t already, according to numerous reports.

Kansas City currently holds nine international roster spots. It acquired one such slot two weeks ago when it dealt forward Adam Cristman to D.C. United. Kostrov and Alexei Casian traveled with the Wizards to Arizona for a 10-day visit that concluded Monday. Aiyegbusi also played in Arizona, and with the team set to return to Phoenix Sunday coach Peter Vermes is considering how big a squad he wants to take.

After the 2009 season, Vermes took scouting trips to South America, Africa and Europe. Colombian defender Pablo Escobar was signed last month and is expected to join the team this week before it heads back to Phoenix; Vermes has cut several players, including a few on trial, yet may be adding other trialists for the second go-round in the desert.

“We have two or three guys we’d like to look at,” said Vermes, “so we might have 30 players or slightly under that when we go back.” He did not comment directly on Kostrov and Aiyegbusi.
