USA to get sendoff against Czech Republic and Turkey

[DATEBOOK] The USA will face 2006 World Cup opponent Czech Republic and Turkey in its two final warmup matches before heading to South Africa for the World Cup. The Czech Republic game will be played May 25 at a site to be announced -- Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn., has been mentioned as a possible venue -- while the Turkey game will be played May 29 at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field.

These games will follow the beginning of the final phase of training for the World Cup.

The European league season ends on May 16.

“We are very pleased to get two quality opponents in the Czech Republic and Turkey in preparation for the World Cup,” said U.S. coach Bob Bradley. “These games will provide a great opportunity to fine tune our plans for the matches in South Africa and test ourselves against some of the better teams in Europe."

The USA has never beaten either the Czech Republic or Turkey.

The USA faced the Czech Republic (formerly Czechoslovakia) twice at the World Cup, losing 5-1 in the opening game in 1990 and 3-0 in the 2006 opener.

The last USA-Turkey meeting took place in 2003 when the Turks prevailed 2-1 at the Confederations Cup in Lyons, France.
