Chivas USA splits in Mexico

[MLS] Chivas USA has returned to the United States with a win and a loss after falling to Universidad de Guadalajara, 2-1, of the Mexican second division Tuesday in the second game of its two matches.

Last Friday, Chivas USA beat second division leader Irapuato in the first game of its visit.

Justin Braun equalized late in the first half for Chivas USA, which had fallen behind to a goal by Joshua Boateng and was beaten when Oscar Pelayo scored the winner 10 minutes into the second half.

Boateng headed UdeG into the lead from a corner kick in the 33rd minute, and Braun scored shortly before halftime with a shot from a tight angle from a Jorge Flores cross. A Pelayo header gave UdeG. the lead and eventually the victory.

Chivas USA played the last seven minutes a man down after Blair Gavin received his second yellow card. Gavin, who replaced Michael Lahoud, was one of seven substitutions made by Coach Martin Vasquez at halftime. Twenty players appeared for Chivas USA, which will travel to Phoenix, Ariz., next week to play Kansas City and Columbus.
