Late Dynamo goal salvages tie with Aztex

[MLS] Eric Ustruck banged home the rebound of a saved Dominic Oduro shot in the final minutes to rescue a 1-1 tie for Houston against USSF Division II foe Austin on Sunday.

Austin had taken a 1-0 lead in the 74th minute when Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell played a long ball past his keeper, Tally Hall, and into the Houston net. The Dynamo had squandered a chance to take the lead in the 62nd minute when Brian Ching’s penalty kick, awarded when Ching drew a foul in the penalty area, came back off the upright.

The Dynamo, which outshot Austin 18-5, finally got on the board in the 86th minute when keeper Miguel Gallardo parried Oduro’s shot, and Ustruck chased the ball down near the end line to slot it home from a tight angle.

Houston hosts Chicago Thursday in a scrimmage at the Carl Lewis Track & Field Complex. The Dynamo then travels to Austin for a rematch Sunday, and heads west for games against San Jose and Chivas USA in California next week.
