[MLS] Colombians have become the import of choice in Major League Soccer. Roger Torres, 18, signed with Philadelphia
Union on loan from America Cali of the Colombian First Division. His signing gives MLS 13 Colombians, most signed in the last two years, spread over 10 teams.
Like many of the transactions, Torres' signing is a loan deal.
Many of the Colombians who have worked out have been defenders, but Torres is unique. He is only 5-foot-5 but a highly regarded young midfielder.
“We're very excited to have Roger join our club,” said Union manager Peter Nowak. “He's another young, talented player with a lot of potential and he'll be a strong addition to our midfield attack. His creativity and ability to see the whole field will help us play the way we want to play."
Torres started 15 games for America in 2009.
