Americans set to defend regional title

[U.S. UNDER-17 WOMEN] The Ponte Vedra Storm (Morgan Brian and Kaili Torres) and Dallas Texans (Clarissa Wedemeyer and Abby Smith) are the only clubs with two players on the U.S. under-17 women's national team that begins Concacaf qualifying Wednesday in Costa Rica for the 2010 Under-17  Women's World Cup.

Brian, the lone holdover from the 2008 team that finished second at the world championships, is the most capped player at the U-17 level on the roster, having played 12 international matches and scored seven goals.

All games at the CONCACAF U-17 Women’s Championships will be played on artificial turf at Alejandro Morera Soto Stadium in Alajuela, just outside of the capital of San Jose.

The USA, the 2008 Concacaf U-17 champion, faces Haiti, the Cayman Islands and host Costa Rica, the 2008 Concacaf runner-up, in group play. The top two teams in each group advance to the semifinals, which will be played on March 18.
