D.C. United tops Mexico's Santos

[MLS] Boyzzz Khumalo's goal with 20 minutes remaining broke a 2-2 tie and provided D.C. United with a 3-2 triumph over Santos Laguna Wednesday in Torrejon, Mexico. Goals by Chris Pontius and Jaime Moreno gave United a 2-0 halftime lead that Santos erased when Francisco Torres and substitute Carlos Quintero scored nine minutes apart. Khumalo ran onto a cross to hit the winner.

Trialists Daniel Woolard (ex-Fire) and Jermaine Taylor (Jamaica) traveled to Mexico with the squad and played the second half. Another trialist, Bolivian defender Juan Manuel Pena, started the first half and went down with an injury shortly before halftime. Recently signed Australian striker Danny Allsopp played the second half.

United next travels to South Carolina for the Carolina Challenge Cup that begins Saturday. It plays Real Salt Lake, Toronto FC, and tournament host Charleston Battery.

Does this count as the first win ever for an American team in Mexico? I'm guessing no....
