Moreno leads D.C. past RSL

[CAROLINA CHALLENGE CUP] Jaime Moreno, MLS's all-time leading goal scorer, scored twice in the last quarter of an hour to give D.C. United a 2-1 win over defending MLS champion Real Salt Lake in the opening game of the Carolina Challenge Cup. The host Charleston Battery of the third division USL-2 tied Toronto FC, 0-0, in the second game before 3,316 fans.

Robbie Findley had put RSL ahead when he scored from the penalty spot in the 40th minute.

Andy Najar, who turns 17 on Tuesday, again played for D.C. United, coming on in the second half.

TFC finished with 10 men when it lost midfielder Gabe Gala to a second yellow ca rd.

It used two trialists, Egyptian Ibrahim Said and Italian defender Alessandro Zamperini, in the second half.
