Mexico, which plays in the 2010 World Cup opener against South Africa on June, plans on bringing with it a very big good luck charm: a replica of the country’s beloved 21-foot tall,gold-plated Independence Monument known as “The Angel.” After Mexico victories, fans flock to the century-old statue in the nation’s capital, waving flags and running around it.

Shippingand diplomatic arrangements are underway to fly the angel to Johannesburg, where plans are to place it in a public space for fans to enjoy, according to Mexico’s Tourism Secretary AlejandroRojas.
