[DYATON MEN] Marlon Duran, who started for the USA as its holding midfielder throughout the 2009 Under-17 World Cup, has
signed to play for Dayton.
“Marlon is a midfielder who is exceptional at disrupting attacks and then linking play with his precision passing,” said Flyer coach Dennis Currier. “He is excellent at reading the game and controlling tempo. He is very deceptive in his aerial game and proven to be very effective on set
pieces.”
The 5-foot-4 Duran is one of six players to play in every minute of the U-17 FIFA World Cup. He has 19 caps with the U-17s, scoring four goals and adding two assists.
He is currently a member of the U-20 national youth team and recently competed in the Copa Chivas Tournament.
Duran is one of 15 players who signed with UD men’s soccer this
year.
“Our assistants have done an excellent job in their persistence of adding strength to our recruiting class for 2010,” said Currier. “Marlon is considered one of
the best players in the country and I give them a lot of credit in his recruitment. This also speaks volumes of how valuable our success of the last two years has been.”
The
Flyers earned the 2008 Atlantic 10 tournament championship and 2009 regular-season title.
