The Las Vegas product is now tied for second place in the league behind only rising Guadalajara star Javier Hernandez.
Mexico national team star Guillermo Ochoa was at fault on the goal, a free kick that he failed to hold on to.
Former MLS star Carlos Ruiz had the first goal for Puebla, which won for only the third time in 12 games.
