Revs' Kenny Mansally tops Saturday's Three Stars

[MLS] Only three MLS games were played the day before Easter as two away teams posted wins and no home team earned a victory. Conference leaders New York and Los Angeles are the only teams at 2-0. Kenny Mansally leads Saturday's Three Stars with two late goals for New England in its 2-0 win at D.C. United. For more on Mansally's exploits and and Saturday's other stars ...

Saturday's Three Stars:

1. Kenny Mansally (New England).

The revamped Revs were missing stalwart Shalrie Joseph because of injury, yet with a pair of goals by the young Gambian  they spoiled D.C. United’s home opener with a 2-0 win at RFK Stadium. Mansally broke open a scoreless game in the 80th minute when the United defense failed to clear a Chris Tierney cross and Mansally smacked it first-time into the net. Mansally then took advantage of a dispirited United defense by weaving through several challenges before sailing a shot into the top corner.

2. Omar Cummings (Colorado).

Colorado blew a pair of one-goal leads at home to tie Chicago, 2-2, but the Jamaican striker menaced the Fire defense throughout the match. He opened the scoring with a long-range, right-footed blast that deceived Chicago keeper Andy Dykstra, and his sharp, aggressive dribbles into the Chicago penalty area produced threatening chips and balls driven low across the goalmouth. He also drew a hard foul from Tim Ward that produced a caution for the Fire right back.

3. Bouna Coundoul (New York).

The Red Bulls shored up their defensive work all over the field to frustrate Seattle and quiet a huge crowd at Qwest Field by beating the Sounders, 1-0, with a Macoumba Kandji goal in the 21st minute. Defenders Tim Ream and Mike Petke were solid in the middle, and Seattle was thwarted by some fine goalkeeping by Coundoul, whose five saves included two spectacular stops on Steve Zakuani. Coundoul, whose handling can be erratic, also commanded his penalty area with decisive snags of crosses and loose balls.

Given the rumors concerning the Red Bulls going after Lehmann, Bouna showed his mettle. He's looking much better on crosses as well.
