Indian's hat trick is big news

Forward Sunil Chettri's bid to become the first Indian to play in MLS is a big story in India. The Times of India had a long report on the Delhi product's progress, noting his hat trick on Saturday in the Kansas City Wizards' 5-0 win over the "University of Earnsville."

Chettri's international transfer certificate has also been approved and he received his P-1 visa. Wizards manager Peter Vermes is happy with Chettri, who will likely play centrally in an attacking role.

Chettri is only the third Indian, after Mohammad Salim and Bhaichung Bhutia, to play for a foreign club and third Indian-born professional athlete playing in the United States. The Pittsburgh Pirates have two minor-league pitchers, Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel.
