[UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE] Wayne Rooney made a surprise start in Manchester United's 3-2 victory over Bayern Munich on
Wednesday, but his exit early in the second half was precipitated when he twisted his ankle again.
The injury probably puts the England international out of Sunday’s Premier League match against Blackburn.
“I don’t think he will be in contention on Sunday,” United manager Alex Ferguson said. “But he should be available the week after [against Manchester City]”
Rooney, who has scored 34 goals this season, left with United leading, 3-1. Arjen Robben’s made the final score 3-2, good enough for Bayern to go through on away goals with a 4-4 aggregate score.
“It’s similar to what he had last week," Ferguson said of the injury. "It’s a burst blood vessel just below the ankle joint. He won’t be out for too long. He’s unlucky he went over on it."
Ferguson went on to add he felt Rooney didn't get any protection from the referee.
